Dr. Luis E. Sanz, MD, FACOG

Dr. Sanz leads the Urogynecology & Pelvic Surgery Center at Virginia Hospital Center, focusing on pelvic floor disorders such as urinary incontinence and prolapse (bulging) of the vagina, bladder and/or uterus. He is a Professor, Scholar Track, in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he formerly served as Vice Chairman and Chief of the Division of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Dr. Sanz is also the former Director of Georgetown's Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstruction Clinic. His specialties include reconstruction of the uterus due to congenital malformation and fibroids, surgical repairs of the external female genitalia due to malformation or injury, and vaginal repair and reconstruction. Dr. Maria Pettit Canter, MD, MSc

Dr. Canter graduated with honors from Georgetown University Medical School and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown University Medical Center. She graduated from a three-year Urogynecology Fellowship Program in Louisville, KY, and she brings with her a very modern and skilled approach to the treatment of pelvic floor disorders. She is extensively trained in minimally invasive surgery, including specialized laparoscopic procedures to correct prolapse. Dr. Canter has received multiple awards recognizing her achievements in Urogynecology from both Georgetown University and University of Louisville. These awards include an award for excellence in minimally invasive endoscopic surgery, academic excellence, and achievements in clinical research. She is the 2005 recipient of the June Allyson Foundation Research Award from the American Urogynecologic Society. Ana J. Cardenas, MSN, FNP

Ana Cardenas completed her undergraduate work at the University of California at Berkeley where she earned a B.A. in Latin American Studies. She later worked as a research assistant in contraception and family planning at the University of California at San Francisco. In this capacity, she first became interested in women's health and there resolved to seek a profession in advanced practice nursing. Pursuing her passion, she graduated from Yale University in 2002 with a Master's of Science in Nursing and a specialization as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She then joined the Urogynecology and Pelvic Surgery Center in 2005 where she performs urodynamic evaluations, provides general gynecologic care and contraceptive management, and functions as liaison for the patients served by the practice.
